Apple iOS 6 Map Problems For Trinity Florida

Apple (AAPL) makes elegant and sophisticated hardware and software. The latest iPhone 5 is stunning and one of the best smart phones on the market today.

Having said that, with the release of the iPhone 5 also came iOS 6 and one of the biggest missteps since MobileMe.

Apple iOS 6 introduced a new “maps” program that replaced Google Maps and suffers from data problems on a scale that makes them practically useless. Sadly, Trinity, Florida suffers many of the worst problems.

Trinity has missing or misplaced hospitals, Sheriff stations, schools, restaurants, shopping retailers, and the like. Do a search for “Hospital” and you get one local result and it’s a pet hospital!

One of the biggest problems is around State Road 54 and Duck Slough Blvd.

Notice the big purple area designated as Tampa Bay Executive Airport?

The airport was closed in October of 2004 and the runway was demolished. The area is now commercially developed, particularly near Duck Slough Blvd.

If you search for some of the local restaurants in the area, you’ll notice that they either don’t show up or their map pins are placed incorrectly.

So what can we do about it? If you own an iPhone and have updated to iOS 6, you need to join the effort and start reporting all the errors.

When in the map, drop a pin or select an incorrect location marker. Once selected, you will get a new page that allows you to “Report a problem”.

You will then get a choice of problems to submit. If we all pitch in, the data issues will get fixed and ultimately the maps will get updated.
